XS Marines formerly called Morries Marines, was started by Sheri Bamboat with a view to making good quality sailing equipment at affordable prices for the Indian sailor.
Sheri himself has been a passionate and enthusiastic sailor since his college years, and has won a number of National titles. Paucity of funds for buying foreign equipment whilst sailing Dinghies led him to start manufacturing items for himself and his friends.
Today he is helped by his son Xerxes who has himself won National titles and medals in the Optimist, Laser 4.7 & Radial Classes. Xerxes has represented India at various IODA Asian Championships abroad and the Asian Games Doha 2006.
Over the years we have developed the following equipment :
- Mould for the International Lightning Class hull.
- 29 & 40 mm roller/ball bearing blocks, first used at the Cadet Worlds held in India in 1987.
- Aluminium spars for the Lightning Class from extruded sections.
- Optimist TYPHOON Racing Spars in Alloy 7075 T6 and Blocks for the Optimist boat which were used successfully at the IODA Asian Championship 2003. Amongst the top ten sailors those using the TYPHOON spars were ranked first, second, third, fifth and seventh.
In 2011 a new International Lightning mould was built. Colaba Sailing Club has placed the first order for these new hulls.
In 2010 the new SEABIRD mould was developed allowing for a higher freeboard on the hull. As on date 9 boats have been sold within a period of 2 years.
In 2008 the first locally extruded aluminium alloy spars were developed for the Lightning Class boats of the “Colaba Sailing Club”. These extrusions were made to meet the specifications of the International Lightning Class Rules. These can also be used for the 420/470/Enterprise Class of boat.
In 2006 TYPHOON Racing Spars along with locally made PRAGA Optimist hulls were exported to Algiers, followed by Mauritius in 2007 through an IODA scheme to promote sailing in developing countries. In 2008 TYPHOON Racing Spars were part of the equipment offered at the IODA African Optimist Championship 2008 held in Mauritius.
XS Marines has pledged to further its aim at providing world class yachting equipment at affordable prices for both the young aspiring champion as well as the older recreational sailor. We hope in this way to inspire many more to experience the thrill of this enthralling sport which develops both the mind and the body and encourages the spirit of new worlds to conquer.
